Sumitomo To Expand by Re-opening 2nd Plant in Scottsville

Sumitomo Electric wiring Systems, inc. (SEWS); Scottsville, Kentucky electrical components plant will expand their operations by re-opening their previously shuttered first plant that began operations in 1988.

SEWS Scottsville , Building 2, located at 796 Smiths Grove Road, Scottsville, Kentucky, is currently undergoing a $3 million  renovation for manufacturing electric wire  terminals produced  for automotive wiring harness applications for SEWS north American and European customer base.

The plant is scheduled to reopen in October of 2012 with some new and existing machinery and manpower being moved from the current manufacturing location on Old Gallatin Road, in Scottsville.

The re-opening is expected to add 8 to 10 additional jobs over the next couple of years and allow for future expansion of both facilities.

Matt Adams, General Manager of General Affairs for SEWS, stated that the decision to re-invest in the Scottsville facilities was due to many factors, however increased sales of competitively priced, high quality product that has been produced by the SEWS Scottsville team of associates, has been recognized as an industry leader by many of the automotive original equipment manufacturers, and as such requires increased production capacity.

Sumitomo’s Scottsville plant employs 170 associates with an annual payroll of $6.8 million dollars contributing to the overall support and growth of Allen and surrounding counties.
