Scottsville-Allen County officials announced today their participation in an economic development program to help communities be better prepared for economic growth.  TVA Economic Development in cooperation with local power company, Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation, is offering the pilot community preparedness program.

“We are pleased to work with Scottsville-Allen County’s community leaders to offer this pilot economic development program,” said John Bradley, TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development. “This will help the community be better prepared for growth and potential job opportunities.”  Its objectives include work to move forward with Allen County’s strategic plan, identify available land and buildings, foster the community’s charitable and entrepreneurial spirit, and continue to improve educational opportunities for career and industry trades.

Tri-County Electric, TVA, state and local entities will assist the Scottsville-Allen County Industrial Authority with a variety of resources to accomplish these objectives.

“As a rural electric cooperative Tri-County Electric has focused not only on delivering electricity, but also improving the quality of life for our member-owners,” said Paul Thompson, Executive V.P. & General Manager of Tri-County Electric.  “Economic development is vital to the success of any community and we join our partner TVA in welcoming the opportunity to work with Scottsville and Allen County leaders in the pilot community preparedness program.  Scottsville and Allen County elected officials and community leaders have a long history of working together.  It is because of this history and the sense of community among local leaders that the program will be successful.”

“We are excited that our regional, state, and local economic development partners see the growth potential for Scottsville and Allen County,” said Jordan Clarke, Chairman of the Scottsville-Allen County Industrial Authority.    “It provides a great opportunity for our city and county government, industrial development authority and other organizations to work together.  We have a strategic plan in place that will guide us toward creating jobs and drive economic development for years to come.”

The Scottsville-Allen County Industrial Development Authority is a six-member corporation. These members work to identify, negotiate and finance the inclusion of new industries to the community. The corporation is actively seeking opportunities to expand the employment base of the community.    For more information, please visit www.scottsvillegrowth.com.
